This perennial grass can reach approximately 5 feet in height. Often, at half that height the stems tend to arch. The leaves can reach 8 inches in length. The flowers are irregular in shape. Green blooms first appear in late spring and turn brown in early fall. This grass prefers moist, shaded areas and is tolerant of other habitats.
